ZILĀ is a two-part drama by Gunārs Priede in Valmiera, presented at Valmieras teātris Jaunā zāle from 6 December 2026 to 28 January 2027. The production is directed by Māra Ķimele, with set design by Reinis Suhanovs, costumes by Ilze Vītoliņa, lighting by Niks Cipruss and music by Toms Auniņš. The cast includes Artis Jančevskis, Ieva Puķe, Anna Nele Āboliņa, Tālivaldis Lasmanis, Januss Johansons, Baiba Valante and Māra Vīgante. The story follows Rasma and her seriously ill son Juris after a car accident that has taken half of the family. Haunted by the gaze of a blue cow, Juris confronts guilt, silence, loss and the meaning of continuing to live. Folk-song volumes become a link to spiritual heritage and identity. Priede wrote the play in 1972; its premiere took place in Estonia in 1973.
