ĻAUNAIS GARS is a two-act folk play by Rūdolfs Blaumanis in Valmiera, at Valmiera Theatre’s Great Hall, on 19 November 2026. Directed by Inese Mičule, the production explores what defines a person: a name, land, possessions or something more. The Cīruļi family’s ordinary life is turned upside down when they learn they have won a huge lottery prize. The mistress begins imagining herself as a grand lady and interferes in her brother’s relationship with a simple servant. The creative team includes set designer Uģis Bērziņš, costume designer Ilze Vītoliņa, lighting designer Krista Erdmane, choreographer Liene Grava and composer Rihards Zaļupe. The production is supported by the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation as part of Valmiera Theatre’s 2026/2027 season.
