The opera Masku balle by Giuseppe Verdi will be staged at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet in Riga from 25 February to 29 May 2027. The story follows fortune-teller Ulrica, who foretells an unusual death for the governor of Boston, Count Richard of Warwick. The prophecy unfolds as his secretary Renato discovers the Count’s secret affection for Renato’s wife Amelia. The masked ball becomes a dramatic stage for revenge. Directed by Marina Bianchi, with sets by Leila Fteita and costumes by Lorena Marin, this production features historical decorations dating back to the 1913 staging that marked Verdi’s centenary.
