Ballet "Giselle" is one of the earliest major Romantic era ballets still performed today. It takes place at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet in Riga, Aspazijas Boulevard 3, from 10 December 2026 to 16 April 2027. Set in a rural village, the story tells of Giselle’s first love, her heartbreak, madness, and death, after which she enters the beautiful yet eerie world of the wilis—the spirits of maidens who make men dance to their deaths. The ballet brings together elements of beauty and tragedy, highlighting the enduring power of love.
