Ballet "Esmeralda" is a romantic production presented at the Latvian National Opera and Ballet in Riga, running from 7 November 2026 to 25 April 2027. Inspired by Victor Hugo's novel "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", the new staging is by Aivars Leimanis, marking the fourth version of this story in Latvian ballet. Set design by Mārtiņš Vilkāršs and costumes by Ilze Vītoliņa create a vivid medieval atmosphere. The story centers on themes of love, jealousy, and death: Claude Frollo desires Esmeralda, who loves Captain Phoebus, while Quasimodo's devotion remains unspoken but unwavering until the end of his life.
