The opera-performance “Sun & Sea” will take place at the Great Amber Concert Hall in Liepāja from 8 to 11 April 2027 as part of the “Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027” programme. This award-winning contemporary Lithuanian opera, created by Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė, Vaiva Grainytė, and Lina Lapelytė, is being presented in Latvia for the first time. The work merges opera, performance, and visual art, with soloists singing about climate crisis and modern society against the backdrop of an artificial beach. The libretto uses irony, humour, and social context to highlight the fragility of human relationships with nature and the environment, encouraging audiences to reflect on their place in the global ecosystem.
