“Latviešu valodas stundas” is a contemporary theatre production in Daugavpils at New East on 23 October 2026. It follows Koļa, who was born and lives in Latvia and is preparing for the state language examination, but finds himself facing a much harder test: the desire to belong, the fear of not fitting in and the need to understand his place in the country. The production explores belonging, self-worth and the psychological and political trauma of decolonisation. An inner voice—ironic, aggressive, sometimes funny and sometimes frightening—comments, provokes and returns to old grievances. The show contains strong language and is not recommended for viewers under 16. Vadims Bogdanovs stars and Edvīns Klimanovs directs.
