“Latviešu valodas stundas” is a contemporary theatre production in Daugavpils at New East on January 22, 2027. It follows Koļa, who was born and lives in Latvia and is preparing for the state language examination, only to face a more difficult test: the need to belong, fear of falling short and the search for his place in the country. The production explores psychological and political decolonisation trauma, a crisis of self-respect and life in a society where a person is constantly being examined. An inner voice — ironic, aggressive, funny and frightening — comments, provokes and returns to old grievances. Vadims Bogdanovs appears in the leading role; Edvīns Klimanovs directs. Not recommended for viewers under 16; the production contains strong language.
