LAIPOTĀJI is a contemporary masked comedy in Valmiera at Valmieras teātris, running from 22 November 2026 to 30 January 2027. This one-act production is created in the style of commedia dell’arte and based on William Shakespeare’s tragedy “Othello”. It is directed and written by Kārlis Krūmiņš, with set design by Ieva Kauliņa, choreography by Eva Krūmiņa and lighting by Gatis Priednieks. The cast features Valmiera Theatre actors Aksels Aizkalns, Tomass Ralfs Ābolkalns, Ieva Estere Barkāne, Elizabete Milta, Kristaps Kristers Ozols and Kārlis Dzintars Zahovskis. Through comedy, the production explores power, status, the outsider’s role, love and passion, and attempts to rise in life through lies and killing, literally or figuratively.
