Drawing Exhibition “Embodied Thought”
This is the most extensive exhibition in Latvia devoted to artistic drawing, offering insights into traditional graphic techniques as a distinct form of creative self-expression and featuring artists for whom drawing holds particular significance. The exhibition focuses on the relationship between drawing and thinking, highlighting drawing’s ability to provide an empathetic experience and inviting viewers to engage with the artist’s world of ideas. The display includes 97 artists from various generations – from Johann Christoph Brotze and classical art representatives, through contemporary artists, to those born in the 1990s. This broad chronological overview, through the delicate medium of drawing, traces the development of Latvian art up to the present day. Today, drawing remains relevant, with many artists valuing analogue drawing as a direct and tactile means of expression closely linked to materiality and movement.
