Exhibition "Livonian Castles"
The exhibition "Livonian Castles" introduces visitors to the Livonian period (13th–16th centuries) and the castles built during this era, highlighting an important layer of Latvia’s medieval cultural and historical heritage. Visitors will discover castles as both military fortresses and power centers, as well as spaces for medieval society. The exhibition is located in the 14th-century vaulted cellars of Riga Castle, emphasizing their authentic architecture. The contemporary installation underlines the contrast between historic heritage and the present: the masonry walls and vaults are preserved, while the polymer concrete floor forms a raised walkway guiding visitors through various themes of the Livonian castles’ story.
