Exhibition: Raimonds Staprāns. The Architecture of Silence
The centenary exhibition of Raimonds Staprāns presents works previously unseen in Latvia and offers an overview of the artist's creative journey from his early pieces in the 1950s to his recent paintings from the 21st century. Visitors can trace the evolution of Staprāns’ painting style over seventy years. While influenced by Abstract Expressionism, Staprāns remained drawn to figurative landscapes and still lifes, establishing himself within the Bay Area Painting movement. His art is characterized by architectural structure and intense color composition, creating a space filled with emotional tension. Each painting results from a patient, lengthy process. The exhibition also provides an insight into Staprāns' life, from his Latvian origins to building his career as a painter and playwright in the United States.
