Tiešsaistes lekcija "Redzēt neredzamo: Bizantijas ikonas", lekciju cikls par "Bizantijas mākslu", will take place via ZOOM livestream on 2 November 2026. The lecture explores how the Invisible can be revealed and the Indescribable described, and whether God can be depicted. Theologians asked these questions for centuries, but the Church gave a final answer only in the 8th century at the Seventh Ecumenical Council. The programme also considers pre-Christian Rome, its cult of imperial portraits and the Fayum mummy portraits, which paved the way for the birth of the icon, while Christianity gave this ancient form fundamentally new theological meaning.
