Laikmetīgās mākslas izstāde "Pamudinātā evolūcija" is a contemporary art exhibition in Riga at RIXC from 24 October to 12 December 2026. Rasas Šmite and Raitis Šmits use artificial intelligence to imagine how plants might evolve amid rapid climate change. The exhibition focuses on wild Andean lupins, which grow in extreme mountain conditions. Working with plant evolution scientist Colin Edward Hughes, the artists digitised 100 herbarium specimens and trained a generative AI model to transform them into speculative forms. In a three-dimensional digital environment, the plants become interactive virtual organisms that respond to visitors’ hand movements and environmental data, including light, temperature and humidity.
