

The Jelgava New Theatre production of Sophocles’ “Oedipus the King” is a tragedy staged at Kultūras nams ROTA in Jelgava from 26 to 27 September 2026. This one-act play tells the story of Oedipus, who, after solving the Sphinx's riddle, rules in Thebes and faces a crisis tied to an unsolved murder, leading to dramatic self-discovery. Featured actors include Juris Bandenieks, Alīna Bartkeviča, Marta Brakanska, Jevgenijs Džeriņš, Andris Jakovelis, Luīze Kalniņa, Jolanta Kupriša, Indra Soika-Dreimane, Santa Stumbre, Ģirts Šteinmanis, and Īvs Zvejs. The production is directed by Antra Leite-Straume, with scenography by Ivars Pirvics and music by Paulis Straume. The performance is in Latvian.
