Eiropas kultūras galvaspilsētas 2027 atklāšanas koncerts "Vēju simfonija" will take place on 23 January 2027 at the LIELAIS DZINTARS Concert Hall, Great Hall, in Liepāja. At 21:00, Ēriks Ešenvalds’ composition created especially for the occasion will receive its first performance. The musical and visual story of the mythical Mermaid will feature a video message by Lauris and Mārcis Ābele. Performing are the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra conducted by Guntis Kuzma, the Riga Brass Band conducted by Valdis Butāns, a Latvian jazz trio and soloist Annija Kristiāna Ādamsone. The evening will be hosted by Mārtiņš Meiers and Agnese Jēkabsone–Ozoliņa. The concert has two parts, lasts approximately 2 hours 50 minutes and is recommended for ages 7+.
