The online lecture "Tiešsaistes lekcija \"Baznīca un vara: kristīgā pasaule starp Austrumiem un Rietumiem\"" takes place on 27 October 2026 in a ZOOM livestream. It explores the profound changes in the Christian world from the sixth to the ninth century: the Church’s relationship with emperors and kings, theological disputes, and the development of different traditions in the East and West. The programme covers Justinian’s empire, the role of the popes, the rise of Islam, and the spread of Christianity in Europe. It also examines the disputes over icons, one of the major religious conflicts of the period.
