Tiešsaistes lekcija "Apollonam tīkamas sacensības - Senās Grieķijas un Romas muzikālie agoni" will take place via ZOOM live stream on 10 November 2026. The lecture explores the role of music in education in ancient Greece and Rome, and Delphi as a musical centre of the ancient world, where the Pythian Games attracted leading singers and musicians. It also looks at Pythagoras’ notation, preserved on stone tablets, and what it allows us to imagine about hymns dedicated to the gods. The programme discusses choral singing, musical accompaniment in theatre performances, and ancient prototypes of instruments still known today, including the lyre, flute and tambourine.
