Miķeļi Autumn Festival at the Open-Air Museum
Miķeļi marks the autumn equinox in Latvia, celebrating the time when day and night are of equal length. This is a traditional autumn festival associated with the end of the harvest, also known as Apjumības. A key ritual is 'Catching Jumis,' symbolizing fertility and good harvests for the future. Visitors are invited to enjoy the Miķeļi Autumn Harvest Festival, featuring a vibrant market, the chance to experience historic harvest traditions, hearty autumn soup, and activities for the whole family. At the Miķeļi market, Latvian artisans and food producers offer a variety of seasonal treats and handicrafts—baskets, knits, jewellery, ceramics, wooden and textile goods, along with freshly baked bread, cheese, smoked products, pastries, honey, and produce. This festival offers a chance to discover Latvian traditions, local craftsmanship, and the richness of autumn at the Open-Air Museum.
