“KINO/ UĻA”
The film "Uļa" is a feature movie screened in Daugavpils at Daugavpils Kultūras Pils from 21 September to 8 October 2026. Set in late 1960s Latvia, the story follows Uļa, a tall teenager from a family of Old Believers, whose life changes after she is invited to join a famous basketball team in Riga. Struggling with her stature and identity, Uļa must choose between hiding or trying to become the world's best player. Directed by Viesturs Kairišs, with Kārlis Arnolds Avots as screenwriter and lead actor, the film is inspired by the legendary Latvian basketball player Uļjana Semjonova and premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
