Veļu vakars “Šajā pusē” is a traditional remembrance evening taking place on 31 October 2026 in Sigulda, at the square by the Krišjānis Barons monument. The Sigulda folklore group “Senleja” will remember relatives and earlier generations who have passed away through songs and recollections, while honouring Krišjānis Barons on his 191st birthday. Everyone from Sigulda, the surrounding area and anyone interested is invited to participate. Visitors are asked to bring outdoor candles to help illuminate this shared moment of remembrance. The evening focuses on gratitude to ancestors, their legacy and the passing of wisdom between generations. The event will be in Latvian.
