
Riga's 825th Birthday Celebration Month
Riga is marking its 825th birthday with a month-long program of diverse events throughout August, including festivities in neighbourhoods, music parks, the November 11th Embankment, and various other city locations. The theme is: “Open Riga! Code: 825!”. Celebrations begin on August 1 with the unveiling of a mural at 46 E. Smiļģa Street and the Left Bank Festival in Uzvaras Park featuring creative workshops, concerts, and a Street Food zone. On August 7 and 8, the National Theatre presents the musical “Rebellious Riga” at Dome Square. On August 8, the Right Bank Festival takes place in Grīziņkalns Park. The culmination on August 14 and 15 includes concerts and events at Town Hall Square, November 11th Embankment, Old Town, Vērmanes Garden, Uzvaras Park, Eksporta Street, Esplanade, near the Riga Congress Center, and Opera Square. Activities feature creative workshops, a crafts market, stories from international guests, street art performances, bike trial, and sports events. The Red Bull Showrun will present a unique motorsport show. Throughout the month, events will also be held in musical parks, Sarkandaugava, and the street art festival. On August 29, the opening of the “ĪRGA” center, a kite festival, and Ancient Fire Night at Vakarbuļļi Beach are planned.
