Meteņi Vecrīgā is a three-day cultural festival in Riga’s Old Town from 5 to 7 February 2027. The programme brings together Latvian and international masking traditions, folklore, music, rituals and a contemporary perspective on intangible cultural heritage. On 5 February, International Mask Day at Town Hall Square will introduce visitors to masking cultures from China, Romania and Lithuania. On 6 February, traditional Meteņi celebrations will take place at Town Hall Square and elsewhere in Old Town from 12:00 to 18:00, with more than 200 participants from Latvian folklore ensembles and mask groups, masked performances, strength competitions, creative workshops, a fair, sled rides and a masked parade. Līvu Square will become a Latgalian Farmstead. On 7 February, regional traditions, games and mask groups will meet there. Visitors are invited to arrive in a mask or make one on site.
